SHIRLEY KLINGHOFFER

Shirley Klinghoffer is an artist/activist, who has, for many years, been working to end violence with the Santa Fe Rape Crisis Center and now is helping to raise funds for their new Trauma Treatment Center - much needed for men and women returning from war zones. She has shown her artwork in a wide range of galleries and museums worldwide. This past year, Shirley felt compelled to express concerns about the war from a humanist voice. With her idea for transforming a war icon into a symbol of peace and hope, the Love Armor project was born.

Shirley Klinghoffer's Artist Statement:
My artwork is very personal. It addresses life situations, universal concerns, some of which hit close to home. Often I use the human body, or parts of the body, to convey an idea. I have consistently explored the use of multiplicity of forms and sensual minimalism with a variety of materials including tinted rubber, wax, plaster, and resins. Provocative elements, dark humor, and machinery to create movement have surfaced in my recent sculpture - in addition to my core use of visual puns and irony.
